The Challenge
Healthcare is at a critical inflection point. While technological advances promise revolutionary changes in care delivery, the fundamental challenges facing healthcare are deeply human.
Providers face increasing cognitive burdens and burnout while caring for more complex patients in less time. Healthcare systems struggle to deliver consistent, high-quality care across diverse settings and populations.
Despite massive investments in technology, we haven't yet cracked the code on how to truly support the humans at the heart of healthcare.
Our Vision
At HEAL, we believe that meaningful healthcare transformation must start with understanding the human experience.
While some focus on technological solutions, we recognize that technology only creates impact through its affect on human systems.
Our vision is to build a healthcare system that works better for everyone by deeply understanding and supporting the experience of care delivery.

Our Approach
We study healthcare as it actually happens – not just as it's designed to work on paper. Using innovative methods from team science, informatics, and implementation research, we:
Uncover how team dynamics and experience shape care quality
Map the invisible patterns of communication and coordination that drive outcomes
Measure the contextual factors that help or hinder care delivery
Design and test improvements that account for human needs and limitations
Our work spans a spectrum from analyzing audit log data to understand team behaviors, to studying how provider cognitive load affects decision-making, to developing frameworks for human-centered technology implementation.
